Happy new year to all 649 members! I hope you all had a great holiday season.We'll be having our first General Membership meeting of 2024 on Wednesday February 28th at 7pm.
The meeting will be at Sutherland Hall (1112 Central Avenue).
I've decided to move the four General Membership meetings in 2024 back to Wednesday nights instead of Tuesdays.
Any member who attends will be paid $30 toward their year end assessment. If you're unable to attend a meeting for a valid reason (such as working the night shift) please fill out an exemption form and return it to a Shop Steward. Exemption forms will be posted to Union bulletin boards and are also available on our website, the link is at the bottom of this email.
I know there were some issues with assessment payments last year. We need the forms filled out for each meeting, and the writing on the form needs to be legible please. There are a few departments where the supervisor for the department is filling out the forms for employees. These exemptions have nothing to do with management, we need the employee to fill them out, not the supervisor. If you have questions about meeting exemptions, please reach out to Brant or a Shop Steward, not your supervisor. A reminder that as per the vote in November to re-affiliate with the UFCW Canada National Defence Fund, your dues will be increasing next month. The increase will be $2 per week or $4 per paycheck. The first pay period where the new rate will be applied is February 4-17, with the payday being February 23.
Lastly, I know this can be a tough time of year for some. Please remember that all 649 members and their dependents can access our counselling services any time by calling Family Service Saskatoon. All you need to do is call 306-244-0127 and say you're a member of UFCW Local 649.
